WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross women's tennis team started the 2025 season with a dominant 7-0 victory over Plymouth State at the Sinnott Family Tennis Facility Tuesday afternoon.
The Crusaders move to 1-0 on the campaign while the guest Panthers fall to 0-1. The 7-0 score was the first time since Sept. 26, 2023 that the Crusaders shutout an opponent.
Freshmen
Phoebe Devine,
Hannah Flynn and
Margaret Winiecki earned their first collegiate wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles respectively.
DOUBLES ACTION:
- Holy Cross swept all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point.
- Devine and Winiecki picked up a 6-0 win at first doubles over Alyssa Craigie and Sofia Orama.
- Flynn and senior Maddie Hamm bettered Chloe Ahern and Lauryn Corrigan at second doubles.
- Junior Alison Lynn and third doubles partner, sophomore Ava Lannigan defeated Maddie Lorenz and Sidney Huff 6-1.
SINGLES PLAY:
- Holy Cross claimed shutout victory by taking all six singles matches.
- Devine downed Craigie 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot.
- Flynn swept through Ahern 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2.
- Winiecki defeated Orama 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
- Hamm added a 6-0, 6-1 win over Corrigan at No. 4.
- Lynn shutout Lorenz 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5.
- Lannigan earned a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Sarah Lamy at No. 6.
NEXT UP:
- Holy Cross returns to action on Friday, Sept. 5 when they play host to Assumption at 3 p.m.
