WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior midfielder Olivia Perez, junior captain Karenna Beckstein, freshman midfielder Cara Bubonovich and freshman goalkeeper Aubrey Haesche all earned Patriot League weekly honors for competition from Aug. 25 – 31.
All four athletes started in both games against New Hampshire and Marist. Holy Cross won 3-1 over the Wildcats and shut out the Red Foxes 2-0.
Perez earned Patriot League Midfielder of the Week. She scored her first goal of the season off a corner that bounced around two teammates. She netted the goal just three and a half minutes into the game, connecting on a popped-up ball, midair, to aid in the 3-1 win over New Hampshire. She also assisted on the game-winning goal, scored by teammate Bubonovich, on a corner set piece in the 2-0 shutout over Marist. Perez tallied three points in the two outings.
Beckstein was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week. She scored her first goal of the season on a penalty kick to help take the 3-1 win over New Hampshire. She then assisted on both goals in the 2-0 shutout over Marist, both of which came from corners that she served in. Beckstein picked up four points on the week, the most of any Crusader.
Bubonovich took home Patriot League Rookie of the Week. She scored her first collegiate goal and the game-winner in the Marist game, heading in a goal off a corner set piece. She helped the team to a 2-0 shutout over Marist.
Haesche tacked on Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week. She earned her first collegiate win and first career shutout, making a total of nine saves. She picked up four saves against New Hampshire and six against Marist while allowing only one goal through on a penalty kick. She now has a 0.72 goals against average and .864 save percentage on the year.
Holy Cross women's soccer (2-3-1) will take a trip to Orono, Maine, to face the Black Bears (1-2-1) on Sunday, Sept. 7, for a 12:00 pm kickoff at Mahaney Diamond.
