WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's soccer team hosted Marist on Sunday afternoon for the Mental Health Awareness game. Back-to-back early header goals led to the Crusaders earning the 2-0 shutout victory over Marist.

IN GOAL:

• Holy Cross: Aubrey Haseche (W, 2-1-1), six saves
• Marist: Maddy Catalanotti (L, 0-5), three saves

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• At 13:06, junior captain Karenna Beckstein pulled up short on the corner kick to find senior midfielder Olivia Perez. Perez sneakily back-heeled the ball back to Beckstein, who served up a perfect header, connecting with freshman midfielder Cara Bubonovich for her first career goal. Just six minutes later and Beckstein took a second corner for the Crusaders and fired in a beautiful service into the box for sophomore captain Caroline Bierfeldt to knock in with her noggin at 19:00. Holy Cross ended the first half with a 2-0 lead.
• The Crusaders led the Red Foxes 6-3 in shots and 3-1 in corners through 45 minutes.
• Neither team scored in the second half.
• Holy Cross led Marist 15-10 in shots and 4-2 in corners to conclude the game.
• Haesche earned her first career shutout.

UP NEXT:

• The Crusaders (2-3-1) will take a trip to Orono, Maine, to face the Black Bears (1-2-1) on Sunday, Sept. 7, for a 12:00 pm kickoff at Mahaney Diamond.
