Crusaders shut out Black Bears in 1-0 road win

Holy Cross earns first win over Maine since 2014

ORONO, Maine – The Holy Cross women's soccer team traveled up north to Maine for an afternoon game at Mahaney Diamond. The Crusaders shut out the Black Bears 1-0 for the first time since 2014.

IN GOAL:

  • Holy Cross: Aubrey Haesche (W, 3-1-1), nine saves
  • Maine: Grace Wilson (L, 1-3-1), four saves

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Late in the first half, fifth-year midfielder Sam Halligan netted her first goal of the season, putting back her own rebounded shot at 39:29.
  • Each team had nine shots apiece while the Crusaders led the Black Bears 1-0 in corners through 45 minutes. 
  • Neither team scored and Haesche made three saves in the second half to Wilson's one. Haesche had a career-high nine saves in the contest.
  • Maine led Holy Cross 16-13 in shots and 9-5 in shots on goal, while the Crusaders had the 4-2 advantage in corners to conclude the game.
  • Holy Cross earned its first win against the Black Bears since 2014 (Sept. 5, 1-0).

UP NEXT:

  • The Crusaders (3-3-1) continue on the road, heading to UAlbany (1-4-1) on Thursday, Sept. 11, for a 6:30 pm kickoff at Bob Ford Field at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium in Albany, N.Y.
