Steven Sparks elevated to men’s rowing associate head coach

WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross men's rowing assistant coach Steven Sparks has been promoted to associate head coach, as announced by head coach Jim Barr.

"Steven has been instrumental in the development of our team over the last two years," said Barr of his assistant. "His work ethic, leadership, and commitment to the student-athlete experience make him incredibly deserving of this promotion. Elevating him to associate head coach simply reflects the level of responsibility and impact he already has within our program."

Sparks is entering his third year at Holy Cross, where he has served as an assistant coach in the previous two seasons, primarily focusing on recruiting, coaching the 3rd and 4th varsity 8s, and helping develop the team training plan.

"I'm incredibly grateful for this opportunity to continue to work with Head Coach Barr and continue to work with the team," said Sparks of the promotion. "I already feel the impact the team has made on my life and career as a coach and I'm excited to continue to return that favor again this fall."

Prior to his time on the Hill, Sparks most recently served as a volunteer assistant coach at Tufts University, focusing on the development of rowers and coxswains, and as an assistant juniors rowing coach with the Cambridge Boat Club. With Cambridge, Sparks assisted with on-the-water coaching while also handling regatta coaching, travel and logistics, and boat safety and maintenance.
