Dessel claims second straight Rhode Island Junior Amateur Championship

PAWTUCKET, R.I. – The 106th Junior Amateur Championship produced both fireworks and memories that will last a lifetime. It's safe to say the Pawtucket Country Club put on a show once again.

It served as a battleground for great matches and great conditions throughout the duration of the championship.

Defending girls' Junior Amateur Champion Lily Dessel came into the 106th edition of the championship with one goal in mind – repeat.

After her semifinal win, Dessel was asked what it would mean to win consecutive titles.

"I definitely want to go back-to-back," she said.

She did exactly what she set out to do.

Dessel controlled the match from the beginning, winning two of the first three holes and never looked back.

After the front nine, Dessel was 3-up in the match and tallied on three more to finish the final match 6&4.

When asked what it meant to go back-to-back, the story was the same.

"It's just great to win and even better to go back-to-back," she said. "It was a lot of pressure trying to defend it, but I felt like I was coasting this week, so it's a great feeling,"

Dessel can carry this momentum into the New England Junior Amateur Championship at the Crumpin-Fox Club in Massachusetts and into her freshman season as a member of the Holy Cross women's golf team.
