WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior captain Nolan Schuermann of the Holy Cross men's golf team has been Patriot League Scholar Athlete of the Year and Academic All-Patriot League, as announced by the league Friday morning.
Schuermann tied for the individual Patriot League Champion title after firing a 68 on day one, a 69 on day two and a 71 on the final day of play for a 208 (-2) performance at the 2025 Patriot League Championship hosted by Bucknell on Apr. 25-27 at the Bucknell Golf Club. He won the playoff to earn an individual bid into the NCAA tournament and was named to the All-Patriot League First Team. Schuermann is only the second Crusader in history to win the individual title, joining former Crusader Matt Czarnecki, who won the honor in 2007. He is the first in program history to be named Patriot League Scholar Athlete of the Year.
The captain has competed in all 10 tournaments, 26 tournament rounds of golf and two match play rounds (vs. Bryant and URI) throughout the year. He finished first for the Crusaders three times and has the best stroke average, 74.12, on the team. He had a season-best low round of 68 twice. Once in the first round of three at the Bucknell Invitational on Oct. 13, 2025, at the Bucknell Golf Club in Lewisburg, Pa. and in the first round of three at the Patriot League Championship on Apr. 25, 2025, at the Bucknell Golf Club in Lewisburg, Pa.
Off the course, the economics major owns a 3.560 GPA and is a Holy Cross men's golf SAAC representative. He volunteers his time at multiple team community service events and with the Salute Military Golf Association, which provides golf instruction to 20+ veterans and their families.
Schuermann will continue his season at the NCAA D-I Men's Golf Regionals hosted by Liberty University at the Poplar Grove Golf Club from May 12-14 in Amherst, Va. He joins former Crusader squads from 1982 and 1983, who attended the tournament as a team after winning the New England NCAA Qualifier in back-to-back years, as the only Holy Cross representatives in program history to make an appearance in the NCAA tournament.
