AMHERST, Mass.— The Holy Cross track and field teams competed in the Julie LaFreniere Commonwealth Invitational hosted by UMass Amherst on Sunday, Apr. 13.

MEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

• Freshman Josh Gentchos broke the outdoor 200m school record with a time of 21.81 to take fourth in the event. The previous record (21.82) was set by senior captain Aidan Bergin at the Patriot League Outdoor Championship on May 3, 2024.
• Junior Jack Ryan won the javelin throwing for 56.91m. 
• Sophomore Tristan Miller clinched second in the 400m dash with a time of 48.79.
• Freshman Tireni Asenuga claimed third in the long jump with a mark of 14.11m.
• Gentchos claimed third in the 100m dash (10.65) followed by Bergin in fourth (10.69).
• Senior Kevin Yatsuhashi took third in the 110m hurdles crossing the finish at 15.24.
• Sophomore Michael Laflamme finished eighth in the hammer throw with a mark of 53.28m.
• The 4x100m relay team, including sophomore Logan Mott, Bergin, freshman Iain DeBoth and Gentchos, placed fifth in the event with a time of 42.59.
• The 4x400m relay team, including freshmen DeBoth, Arthur Ribeiro and Brendan Rogers as well as Miller, came in sixth place with a time of 3:23.76.

WOMEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

• Sophomore Grace Ryan broke her own javelin school record with a mark of 42.88m to win the event. She previously set the record (41.04m) at the UMass Flagship Spring Opener on Apr. 5. 
• Freshman Abby Desmarais won the 100m dash with a time of 11.94 followed by junior Giavanna Ciaravino in second (12.09).
• Junior captain Alex Lusby won the 800m run crossing the finish at 2:12.44. Sophomore Annabel Murray took fourth in the event (2:15.63).
• Senior Ella Grey won the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.27. Senior captain Lauren Clark also competed in the event (14.65, seventh).
• Senior captain Haley Murphy clinched second in the 400m dash with a time of 55.60.
• Senior captain Maura Switzer took fourth in the pole vault clearing 3.67m.
• Freshman Lily Deforge (13.26m, fifth)and sophomore Gabby Paolella (12.84m, eighth) both competed in the shot put.
• Junior Ester Mokonchu finished eighth in the hammer throw (48.80m).
• The 4x100m relay team, including Ciaravino, senior captain Molly O'Connor, freshman Danielle DiEsso and Desmarais, won the event with a time of 47.15.
• The 4x400m relay team, including DiEsso, sophomore Keira O'Connor, Desmarais and Murphy, won the event with a time of 3:48.99.

• The Holy Cross track and field teams will return to action to host the inaugural Jim Kavanagh Legacy Invitational in Worcester, Mass. on Apr. 19 at the Hart Turf Field & Hart Track.
