Two members of the Holy Cross football team earned weekly accolades from the Patriot League, as announced on Monday, Nov. 24.
Junior cornerback
Eli Thompson was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, and junior safety
Donovan Comestro earned Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week honors. Both made crucial plays in Holy Cross' 42-7 victory over Georgetown on Saturday, Nov. 22 at Fenway Park.
Thompson had two interceptions in the Crusaders' strong defensive effort; he returned his second interception of the day 94 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter, marking his second pick-six of the year. Saturday also marked the second multi-interception game of Thompson's career. He finishes the year with four total interceptions. Thompson also recorded four tackles, including a TFL, in Saturday's win.
This is the second time in Thompson's career that he has earned a weekly award from the Patriot League, as he was named the conference's Rookie of the Week during the 2023 season after a two-interception game vs. Colgate.
Comestro earns the first weekly accolade of his career after blocking a punt in Saturday's win — his first blocked punt of the season. The blocked punt was recovered by senior
Sam Boyer in the end zone for a touchdown, giving the Crusaders a 14-0 lead in the second quarter.
Holy Cross blocked six punts this season, tied for the national lead. The Crusaders have now earned Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week laurels six times this season, more than any other team in the conference.
