Men’s basketball ends road swing at Sacred Heart

The Holy Cross men's basketball team looks to get back into the win column this coming Friday, Nov. 21 as they wrap up their season opening six game road trip at nonconference opponent Sacred Heart in the Pitt Center with tip-off slated for 7 p.m. The contest will stream live on ESPN+.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (1-4, 0-0 PL): 
  • Holy Cross suffered a 68-49 loss to Brown on Tuesday evening. Junior guard/forward Joe Nugent scored a team-high 17 points with six boards and four triples. Classmate, guard/forward Gabe Warren dropped a season-high matching 13 points with a career-high four steals.
  • Nugent was named Patriot League Honorable Mention on Monday afternoon. Nugent led the Patriot League in three-pointers (9) and free throw percentage (100.0%), while ranking second in scoring (20.5) and tied for second in three-point percentage (56.3%) over two games last week.
  • Nugent has 156 career three-pointers and need three more to move into fifth place on the program's all-time career three-pointer list. He would pass Austin Butler (158, 2017-21). He needs 67 more triples to become the program's all-time leader in three-pointers (223).
  • Holy Cross and Worcester State Athletics have announced a food drive to benefit the Worcester East Food Pantry on Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 2 p.m. Fans who make the two or more food items donation, will receive a free ticket to the Holy Cross vs. Worcester State game and be entered to win courtside seats to an upcoming Holy Cross men's basketball game.
  • The Crusaders haven't blocked a shot in four straight games. Their last blocked shot was with 6:34 left in the second half at Providence.
  • Holy Cross moved from 321st to 342nd in the 2026 Pomeroy College Basketball Ratings following their loss to Brown. They rank 316th (99.9) in offensive rating and 342nd (115.0) in defensive rating.  
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS (1-3, 0-0 MAAC): 
  • Sacred Heart has dropped three straight games most recently to Queens (N.C.) 81-64 last Saturday, Nov. 15. Anquan Hill scored 19 points with seven rebounds in the setback.
  • The three-point game is part of the Pioneers attack as they ranked 19th in the NCAA in three-point attempts per game (32.5) and 30th in three-pointers per game (11.0). They also hardly foul their opponents as they come in at 13th in the nation in fouls per game (13.5).
  • Sacred Heart was picked third in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll and led the conference with three preseason All-League selections (Anquan Hill – First Team, Mekhi Conner – Second Team, Nyle Ralph-Beyer – Third Team)
  • The Pirates rank 289th in the 2026 Pomeroy College Basketball Ratings ranking 224th (104.5) in offensive rating and 333rd (114.6) in defensive rating.
LAST TIME THEY MET: 
  • Holy Cross is 11-8 (.579) in the series history against Sacred Heart which began in 1999.
  • In their last meeting, the Crusaders picked up an 82-75 win in the opening game of the College Hill Classic. Then-freshman Tyler Boston scored 15 points and handed out six assists in the win.
