LEWISBURG, Pa.— The Holy Cross track and field teams traveled to Pennsylvania to partake in the Patriot League Championships hosted by Bucknell on Friday through Saturday, May 3-4. The Crusaders got off to a strong start on day one of the meet with the women ending the day in a shared seventh place and the men sitting in eighth place.
WOMEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
- Senior Kiley Ronan broke the 400m dash school record with a qualifying time of 55.97 for fourth in the prelim. The record was previously set by Kate Ashley '23 (56.13) at the New England Championship on May 7, 2022.
- Junior Abby Hughes won the 1500m run prelim to secure a spot in the finals clocking in at 4:32.29.
- Junior Ella Grey took third in the 100m hurdles prelim with a qualifying time of 13.96, a personal best. Sophomore Celia Kulis also competed in the event following right behind Grey in fourth to qualify for the finals with a time of 14.14.
- After day one of the heptathlon, four of the seven events were completed with Kulis sitting in third with 2,928 points and junior Jane Feeney following closely in fifth with 2,817 points.
- Sophomore Alex Lusby claimed fifth in the 800m run prelim with a qualifying time of 2:10.61.
- Junior Haley Murphy hit a qualifying time of 1:03.47 in the 400m hurdles for eighth place.
- Junior Maura Switzer took a shared fifth place in the pole vault clearing 3.72m.
- The 4x800 relay team including sophomore Fiona Doherty, sophomore Abby Granrath, Lusby, and A. Hughes came in ninth place with a time of 9:24.73.
MEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
- Junior Aidan Bergin broke a 12-year old 200m dash school record with a time of 21.82 in the prelim to finish in 10th place overall. The record was previously set by Ross Davies (22.00) at Bryant on April 21, 2012.
- Sophomore Liam Lyons ran a qualifying time of 3:48.12 in the 1500m run prelim for fifth place. Freshman Joseph Mahon also competed in the event crossing the finish at 3:50.86 for 12th place to qualify for the finals.
- Senior Mike Mazzocca claimed second in the 110m hurdles with a qualifying time of 14.36. Right behind him were juniors Brian Fennelly and Josh Exantus who also competed in the event both advancing to the finals with qualifying times. Fennelly came in third with a time of 14.75 and Exantus placed fifth clocking in at 15.04.
- Fennelly and freshman Matthew Perkins advanced to the finals in the 400m hurdles with Fennelly coming in at 54.83 for sixth and Perkins in seventh with a time of 53.53.
- Freshman Chandler Dicks placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 6.95m, a personal best.
- Senior Will McAlpine came in fourth in the javelin with a throw of 60.16m.
- Freshman Ryan Hatem completed day one of the Decathlon finishing the day in fifth place with 3,242 points.
- The men's 4x800 relay team consisting of junior Stephen Joseph, freshman Luke Boothroyd, senior Rigoberto Alfonso and junior Andrew Van De Mark came in ninth with a time of 8:04.33.
