Crusaders tally 11 medals to conclude spring season at NEICAAA Championship

The women’s team broke three school records and finished second overall

WORCESTER, Mass.— The Holy Cross track and field teams conclude their outdoor season hosting the NEICAAA Championship on Saturday, May 11. The Crusaders finished the meet on a high note with the women coming in second place and the men placing in fourth.

 The women accumulated 83.5 points and racked up seven medals. The men tallied 56.5 points and claimed four medals.

WOMEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The women's 4x400m relay team consisting of senior Kiley Ronan, junior Haley Murphy, sophomore Alex Lusby and junior Molly O'Connor broke the 14 year old record in the final to take silver clocking in at 3:48.49. The previous time, 3:48.97 was set back in 2010 at Bucknell (Anderson '11, Gorski '13, Reid '10, Pruszko '10).
  • Sophomore Celia Kulis broke the heptathlon school record with 4,653 pts. for second and the silver. The record was previously set by junior Jane Feeney last year at the Patriot League Championship (4,610 pts.).
  • Ronan broke her own school record in the 400m final with a personal best time of 55.57 to take third and the bronze overall. She set the record last weekend at the Patriot League Championship (55.97)
  • Junior Abby Hughes won the 1500m with a personal best time of 4:28.82 for the gold.
  • Murphy won the 400m hurdles finals for the gold with a time of 1:01.54.
  • O'Connor came in third in the 200m final with a season best time of 25.06 for the bronze medal.
  • Lusby earned the bronze in the 800m with a time of 2:11.77 followed closely by sophomore Fiona Doherty who crossed the finish at 2:13.30 for fourth.
  • Kulis finished in fourth with a time of 14.08 in the 100m hurdles final.
  • Senior Maura Doherty placed fifth in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:30.47.
  • Sophomore Giavanna Ciaravino finished eighth in the 100m finals with a time of 12.48.
  • The 4x100 relay team including Ciaravino, sophomore Olivia Foster, junior Yoma Avbovbo and freshman Lindsay Gill came in seventh place with a time of 48.98.
  • The 4x800 relay team consisting of Hughes, junior Shannon Jordan, sophomore Abby Granrath, F. Doherty came in sixth place with a time of 9:30.06.

MEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Senior Mike Mazzocca clinched the gold in the 110m hurdles final with a time of 14.28. Junior Josh Exantus also competed in the event taking seventh place with a time of 14.84.
  • Sophomore Liam Lyons won the 1500m to take the gold with a time of 3:49.30.
  • The men's 4x100 relay team including senior Chris Barone, Exantus, junior Aidan Bergin and freshman Matthew Perkins finished in second for the silver with a time of 42.06.
  • The men's 4x800 relay team consisting of Lyons, junior Stephen Joseph, senior Rigoberto Alfonso and freshman Joseph Mahon came in third for the bronze with a time of 7:43.79.
  • Junior Brian Fennelly and freshman Ryan Hatem completed the decathlon with Hatem coming in fourth (5,965 pts.) and Fennelly placed fifth (5,681 pts.).
  • Mahon came in sixth in the 800m with a time of 1:54.14.
  • Freshman Chandler Dicks took a shared seventh in the high jump clearing 1.91m.
  • The men's 4x400 relay team consisting of Perkins, junior Andrew Van De Mark, junior Quinlan Perry and freshman Luke Boothroyd came in sixth with a time of 3:23.72.

NEXT UP:

  • The Holy Cross track and field teams conclude the 2024 outdoor season and will return to action in the winter for the 2024-25 indoor season.
