Crusaders complete day one of NEICAAA Championship

WORCESTER, Mass.— The Holy Cross track and field teams hosted the NEICAAA Championship from Friday through Saturday, May 10-11. The Crusaders got off to a strong start on day one of the meet with the women ending the day in 10th place and the men sitting in a shared 18th place.

MEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Senior Mike Mazzocca claimed second in the 110m hurdles with a qualifying time of 14.07. Junior Josh Exantus also competed in the event advancing to the finals with a qualifying time of 14.47, a personal best for sixth place.
  • Junior Brian Fennelly and freshman Ryan Hatem completed day one of the decathlon and finished five of the 10 events. Fennelly currently sits in fourth place with 3,353 points and Hatem in sixth with 3,158 points.
  • Freshman Chandler Dicks placed seventh in the long jump with a mark of 6.86m.
  • Senior Will McAlpine came in seventh in the javelin with a throw of 58.07m.

WOMEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Junior Haley Murphy won the 400m hurdles prelim with a qualifying time of 1:02.36.
  • Senior Kiley Ronan came in fourth in the 400m with a qualifying time of 56.95 in the prelim.
  • Sophomore Celia Kulis finished fifth in the 100m hurdles to qualify for the finals with a time of 14.26. She also competed in the heptathlon completing four of the seven events to currently own second place with 2,866 points.
  • Junior Molly O'Connor took sixth in the 200m with a qualifying time of 25.25.
  • Sophomore Giavanna Ciaravino qualified for the finals in the 100m with a time of 12.31 for seventh.
  • Sophomore Ester Mokonchu came in sixth in the hammer throw with a mark of 46.76m.
  • Freshman Amanda Ogden placed fifth in the long jump with a mark of 5.62m.
  • Junior Maura Switzer took a shared sixth place in the pole vault clearing 3.62m.

The Holy Cross track and field teams will return to action on Saturday, May 11 for the final day of competition in the NEICAAA Championships.
