AMHERST, Mass.— The Holy Cross track and field teams competed at the UMass Flagship Spring Opener on Sunday, Apr. 7. The men competed against 10 other collegiate teams while the women took on 11.

The women finished in third talling 68 points and the men finished in fifth with 56.5 points in the meet.

WOMEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

• Senior Maura Doherty clinched first in the 3000m steeplechase, her first collegiate win, with a personal best time of 11:34.29. Sophomore Abby Granrath also competed in the event taking fifth with a personal best time of 12:06.05.
• Sophomore Celia Kulis took second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.12. Right behind her was junior Ella Grey who crossed the finish at 14.20 for third place.
• Sophomore Alex Lusby placed second in the 800m with a time of 2:13.46. Fellow sophomore Fiona Doherty followed Lusby closely in fourth with a time of 2:15.42.
• Junior Haley Murphy earned second place in the 400m hurdles with a personal best time of 1:02.95.
• Junior Molly O'Connor claimed fifth in the 100m with a personal best time of 12.38. 
• Sophomore Olivia Foster came in fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 3.40m.
• Senior Lindsay Marjanski marks 1.54m in the high jump for sixth place. Freshman Alyssa Peasley also competed in the event with a mark of 1.49m for eighth place.
• The 4x100 relay team including Foster, O'Connor, senior Kiley Ronan, and Grey claimed second place with a time of 48.20.
• The 4x400 relay team including Ronan, Lusby, Murphy and junior Helene Cummings claimed second place with a time of 3:57.18.

MEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

• Senior Will McAlpine finished first in the javelin with a mark of 54.39m. 
• Freshman Matthew Perkins clinched first in the 400m hurdles, his first collegiate win, with a time of 55.41. He was followed closely by fellow freshman Rory Olsen who came in second with a time of 55.47.
• Junior Brian Fennelly placed third in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.47. Junior Kevin Yatsuhashi also competed in the event coming in eighth with a time of 15.65.
• Sophomore Liam Lyons came in fourth in the 800m with a personal best time of 1:53.18
• Senior Chris Barone finished in fifth in the 100m with a time of 10.67.
• Freshman Joseph Mahon came in sixth in the 1500m with a personal best time of 3:55.25.
• Freshman Michel Mondesir earned a shared fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.85m.
• Freshman Aidan Dentice came in fourth in the discus with a personal best mark of 42.26m.
• The 4x100 relay team including Barone, junior Josh Exantus, junior Aidan Bergin and senior Mike Mazzocca clinched first place with a time of 41.89.
• The 4x400 relay team including senior Rigoberto Alfonso, freshman Luke Boothroyd, junior Stephen Joseph, and junior Andrew Van De Mark finished in fifth place with a time of 3:26.46.

NEXT UP:

• The Holy Cross track and field teams will head to Storrs, Conn. to compete at the UConn Northeast Challenge hosted by UConn from Apr. 12 to Apr. 13.
