Men’s lacrosse falls short against Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Holy Cross men's lacrosse team fell to Lehigh, 9-7, on Saturday at Frank Banko Field.

Sophomore William Stahl and freshman Jude Lynch led the way for the Crusaders (2-8, 0-6 PL) with two goals each. Lehigh (5-6, 3-2 PL) was led by Quinn Armstrong, who recorded four goals.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Freshman Jude Lynch netted the only goal of the first quarter with 5:42 to go in the opening frame to give the Crusaders the 1-0 lead.
  • Lehigh tied the game up at 1-1 just over three minutes into the second frame.
  • The Crusaders went on a 3-1 run to end the second frame, with freshman Luca Ward, freshman Ryan Botek, and sophomore William Stahl netting a goal each in a three-minute span to take the 4-1 lead, before Lehigh scored with nine seconds left to make the score 4-2 going into the halftime break.
  • Lehigh netted two goals in the opening minutes of the third quarter to tie the game at four all.
  • Lynch picked up his second of the game with a long-range goal thirty seconds later to regain the lead for the Crusaders.
  • Lehigh scored two in the next three minutes to take the 6-5 lead, before Stahl picked up his second goal of the game on the man-up advantage to tie the game at six.
  • Lehigh went on a 3-0 run from the end of the third to the start of the fourth to take a 9-6 lead.
  • Junior Henry Sheehan scored with 13 seconds left in the contest to cut the Lehigh lead to 9-7.
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • The goaltending duo of senior Dawson Friers and sophomore JR Long combined for 10 saves on the afternoon.
  • Sophomore Michael Rincon led the way on defense with two caused turnovers and four ground ball pickups.
  • Senior Connor DePiero recorded seven faceoff wins and four ground ball pickups.
UP NEXT:
  • Holy Cross will return to Kuzniewski Field next Saturday, April 13, when they welcome Loyola (Md.).
  • Game time is set for 1 p.m.
