WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross junior forward
Caleb Kenney has been named the 2023-2024 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year in men's basketball. Kenney was also selected second team All-Patriot League and to the Patriot League All-Defensive Team, while senior guard
Joe Octave earned third team All-Patriot League honors.
Kenney has averaged 11.9 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.1 blocked shots per game this season, while connecting on 57.0 percent of his field goal attempts (163 of 286). He currently leads the Patriot League in field goal percentage, while standing second in blocked shots, fourth in rebounding and 10th in scoring. Kenney has led the team in scoring six times, in rebounding 14 times and in blocks 25 times this year, while scoring in double-digits 20 times and posting three double-doubles. Over the course of his career with the Crusaders, he has now totaled 693 points, 439 rebounds, 121 blocked shots, 84 assists and 77 steals with a .544 field goal percentage (302 of 555). Kenney is the fifth Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year selection in program history, joining Kevin Hamilton (2005-2006), Torey Thomas (2006-2007) and Jehyve Floyd (2017-2018 and 2018-2019).
Octave has averaged a team-high 14.0 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists per contest so far this year, while making 70.6 percent of his foul shots (101 of 143). He currently stands sixth in the conference in scoring, 10th in rebounding and 10th in free throw percentage. Octave has led the squad in scoring 15 times and in rebounding 11 times season, while scoring in double figures 21 times with eight 20-point games and three double-doubles. Over the course of his collegiate career, he has totaled 1,010 points, 408 rebounds, 111 assists and 62 steals.Â
Holy Cross (9-22, 6-12 Patriot League), which tied for eighth in the conference regular season standings, returns to action on Tuesday, March 5, when it travels to Army West Point for a first round game in the Patriot League Tournament. The contest between the Crusaders and the Black Knights is scheduled to tip-off at 6 p.m. from Christl Arena.
