SMITHFIELD, R.I.— The Holy Cross track and field teams split crews to start the outdoor season opener. Half of the team competed at the Black and Gold Invitational hosted by Bryant, while the other half went to the Sam Howell Invitational hosted by Princeton on Saturday, Mar. 30.

The women's team placed 12th out of 15 teams and the men's team finished in 13th out of 14 competing squads.

WOMEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

• Freshman Maggie O'Reilly took fourth in the pole vault with a 3.53m mark, a personal best. She was followed by fellow freshman Bridget Sachs and Alyssa Peasley. Sachs claimed sixth with a 3.38m mark and Peasley finished in seventh with a 3.38m mark.
• Senior Maura Doherty competed in the 5000m for 12th place with a personal best time of 18:15.81. Junior Caroline Gage also competed in the event coming in 15th with a time of 18:24.00.
• Freshman Keira O'Connor marked 1.46m in the high jump for 10th place.
• Senior Maura Campbell marked 44.88m in the hammer throw for a 10th place finish.
• The 4x400 relay team including freshman Olivia Petschauer, freshman Cecilia Kvochak, sophomore Lauren Hughes and freshman Annabel Murray took 12th with a time of 4:22.82.

MEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

• Junior Sam Baker claimed sixth in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:17.18.
• Freshman Aidan Dentice came in sixth in the discus with a mark of 42.09m, a personal best.
• Freshman Luke Wadzinski took 10th place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 58.95, a personal best.

NEXT UP:

• The Holy Cross track and field teams will head to Amherst, Mass. to compete at the UMass Flagship Meet hosted by UMass Amherst from Apr. 5 to Apr. 6.
