PRINCETON, N.J.— The Holy Cross track and field teams split crews to start the outdoor season opener. Half of the team competed at the Black and Gold Invitational hosted by Bryant, while the other half went to the Sam Howell Invitational hosted by Princeton on Saturday, Mar. 30.

MEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

• The 4x100 relay team including senior Chris Barone, junior Josh Exantus, junior Aidan Bergin and senior Mike Mazzocca broke the school record in the event clinching second place with a time of 41.37. The previous time was 42.00 set by Barone, Nyeoti Punni, Bergin and junior Brian Fennelly at the Holy Cross Invitational on Apr. 22, 2023.
• Senior Will McAlpine finished first in the javelin with a mark of 54.98m. Sophomore Jack Ryan also competed in the event with a mark of 47.95m for eighth place.
• Barone claimed seventh in the 100m dash with a time of 10.79, a personal best.
• Junior Stephen Joseph finished eighth in the unseeded 800m run with a time of 1:57.56.
• Mazzocca, Fennelly and Exantus all competed in the 110m hurdles advancing to the finals. Mazzocca took third in the final with a time of 14.36 followed by Fennelly in fourth (14.41) and Exantus in seventh (14.82). Fennelly and Exantus had personal bests.
• Fennelly claimed fourth in the 400m hurdles with a personal best time of 54.26.
• Sophomore Liam Lyons competed in the elite 1500m coming in 10th with a time of 3:54.36
• Freshman Joseph Mahon competed in the elite 800m taking 17th with  a personal best time of 1:54.02.
• Freshman Michel Mondesir took sixth in the high jump with a personal best mark of 1.90m.
• The 4x400 relay team including junior Andrew Van De Mark, freshman Rory Olsen, freshman Matthew Perkins, and sophomore Quinlan Perry claimed seventh place with a time of 3:27.03.

WOMEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

• Sophomore Celia Kulis advanced to the final in the 100m hurdles prelim with a time of 14.39 and finished in third in the final with a time of 14.26.
• Junior Haley Murphy finished third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:03.69.
• Junior Abby Hughes and sophomore Alex Lusby competed in the elite 1500m with Hughes taking 11th with a time of 4:38.39 and Lusby coming in 16th with a time of 4:40.14, personal bests for the pair of athletes.
• Junior Maura Switzer took fourth place in the pole vault with a 3.60m mark.
• Freshman Gabby Paolella marked 34.63m in the discus for a ninth place finish.
• The 4x100 relay team including freshman Ava McIntyre, sophomore Olivia Foster, junior Ella Grey and freshman Lindsay Gill claimed seventh place with a time of 50.71.
• The 4x400 relay team including junior Molly O'Connor, junior Helene Cummings, Murphy and senior Lindsay Marjanski claimed fifth place with a time of 4:04.20.

NEXT UP:

• The Holy Cross track and field teams will head to Amherst, Mass. to compete at the UMass Flagship Meet hosted by UMass Amherst from Apr. 5 to Apr. 6.
