Men’s lacrosse falls to No. 17 Boston University in Turnpike Trophy matchup

WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross men's lacrosse team fell to no. 17 Boston University, 22-6, on Saturday at Kuzniewski Field.

Senior Matt Major led the way for the Crusaders (2-7, 0-5 PL) with his second hat trick of the season. Boston University (7-3, 4-1 PL) was led by Brendan Kelley, who recorded six goals, and Louis Perfetto, who netted four goals and added two assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • BU got out to a quick lead in the first quarter, broken up by freshman Luca Ward's fourth goal of the season.
  • The Terriers extended their lead in the second quarter before Major netted his first goal of the game in the final minute of the half.
  • Sophomore Will Messineo and Major netted back-to-back man-up goals in a thirty second span in the third quarter. Junior Henry Sheehan picked up the assist on both tallies.
  • Junior John Mitchell picked up his second goal of the season and Major completed his hat trick in the final 3:30 of the third frame.

BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Matt Major extended his goal streak to six games. Over the stretch, Major has recorded ten goals and an assist. His 15 goals overall this season are one short of his career high.
  • The goalkeeping duo of senior Dawson Friers and sophomore JR Long combined for 12 saves in the contest. BU's trio of Will Barnes, Tommy Gentile, and Kevin Barrett combined for 14.
  • Junior Owen Larson led the way on defense with two caused turnovers, while senior Connor DePiero recorded five ground balls and 11 faceoff wins.

UP NEXT:
  • Holy Cross will continue their Patriot League schedule next Saturday, April 6, when they travel to Bethlehem, Pa. to face Lehigh.
  • Game time is set for 1 p.m.
