BOSTON, Mass.— The Holy Cross track and field teams traveled to the city to partake in the Patriot League Championships hosted by Boston University on Saturday through Sunday, Feb. 24-25. The Crusaders got off to a strong start on day one of the meet with the women ending the day in fifth place and the men sitting in a shared seventh place.
MEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
- Senior Mike Mazzocca claimed second in the 60m hurdles prelim with a time of 7.96 to qualify for the finals, a personal best. He broke his own school record which he already broke earlier this season (previously 7.98). Juniors Brian Fennelly and Josh Exantus also competed in the event both advancing to the finals with qualifying times and personal bests. Fennelly came in fifth with a time of 8.17 and Exantus placed eighth with a time of 8.26.
- Exantus took ninth in the 200m dash prelim with a time of 22.26, a personal best.
- Fennelly and freshman Ryan Hatem completed day one of the heptathlon. Fennelly finished the day in fourth place with 2,633 points followed by Hatem in fifth with 2,613 points.
- Sophomore Liam Lyons came in second place in the mile run prelim with a time of 4:10.90.
- Senior Chris Barone finished in 7th place in the 60m dash prelim with a season best and qualifying time of 6.93.
- Freshman Tristan Miller took 10th in the 400m dash prelim with a personal best time of 49.49.
- Freshman Chandler Dicks placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 6.92m, a personal best.
- The men's 4x800 relay team consisting of senior Rigoberto Alfonso, freshman Joseph Mahon, freshman Luke Boothroyd and junior Stephen Joseph came in eighth with a time of 7:52.29.
WOMEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
- Junior Ella Grey took third in the 60m hurdles prelim with a qualifying time of 8.72, a season best. Sophomore Celia Kulis also competed in the event and came in seventh with a time of 8.90 to qualify for the finals.
- Kulis finished the pentathlon in 7th place with 3,126 points.
- Senior Kiley Ronan took eighth in the 400m dash prelim with a qualifying time of 56.56, a new personal best.
- Sophomore Alex Lusby claimed sixth in the 800m run prelim to qualify for the final with a 2:12.95.
- Junior Molly O'Connor took 11th in the preliminary rounds of both the 60m dash (7.82) and the 200m dash (25.05) for season bests in the events. Sophomore Giavanna Ciaravino also competed in the 60m dash prelim with a time of 7.95 for 16th place, a season best.
- Junior Maura Switzer took a shared fifth place in the pole vault with a 3.80m mark, a personal best. Sophomore Olivia Foster and freshman Alyssa Peasley also competed in the event with Foster earning a personal best for 15th (3.55m) and Peasley taking 17th with a season best (3.40m).
- Senior Maura Campbell marked 15.10m in the weight throw for an 11th place finish.
- The 4x800 relay team including sophomore Fiona Doherty, freshman Annabel Murray, Lusby, and junior Abby Hughes claimed fifth place with a time of 9:08.33.
