Women’s basketball hosts Stony Brook Sunday afternoon

The Holy Cross women's basketball team is back in the Hart Center Arena on Sunday, Dec. 8 for a 2 p.m. nonconference showdown with Stony Brook. The contest will stream live on ESPN+.
 
Fans attending the game can participate in a toy drive to benefit 508 Forever Young. Bring a new unwrapped toy for children in need (aged 6-12) and receive a complimentary ticket for the game. First Responders will be recognized in-game and the women's team will participate in a postgame autograph signing.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (4-4, 0-0 PL): 
  • Holy Cross is coming off an 88-52 setback to No. 2 nationally-ranked Connecticut on Tuesday evening. The Crusaders trailed by one, 11-10 through the first quarter and by six, 33-27 at halftime before the Huskies pulled away in the second half. Senior Lindsay Berger returned to the starting five and scored a team-high 12 points on 6-of-7 (85.7%) shooting.
  • As a team, Holy Cross ranks 41st in the country in free throw percentage (75.7). Junior guard Simone Foreman is 21-of-23 (91.3%) at the line this year which is 19th in the nation and second in the Patriot League.
  • The Crusaders have only had their shot blocked 11 times this season which is tied for the fifth fewest in the NCAA with Stephen F. Austin.
  • In the first NET Rankings released by the NCAA on Monday, the Crusaders rank 150 out of 362 teams in the NCAA. Lehigh (91) and Colgate (124) are the only Patriot League teams that rank higher than Holy Cross.
  • Over the last three seasons, Holy Cross is 38-12 (.760) at home in the Hart Center Arena compared to 30-24 (.556) on the road.
SCOUTING THE SEAWOLVES (3-4, 0-0 CAA): 
  • Stony Brook started the season 3-1 but has lost three straight games including a 64-55 setback to Fordham on Sunday, Dec. 1. Zaida Gonzalez scored a team-high 21 points with three rebounds, an assist and a steal on 10-of-24 (41.7%) shooting.
  • The Seawolves who finished 2023-24 with a 28-5 and 16-2 record in CAA play fell to Drexel in the CAA Championship Game. This season, Stony Brook was slated for a ninth-place finish out of 14 programs in the CAA Preseason Poll.
  • Stony Brook is elite at defending the three-pointer as they rank seventh in the country in three-point percentage defense (21.6%), however, they struggle shooting from deep ranking 346th out of 353 teams in the nation in three-point percentage (20.6).
LAST TIME THEY MET: 
  • The Crusaders are 0-1 in the series history against the Seawolves which began last season in 2023.
  • During their only meeting in the series, the Crusaders lost 68-55 on Long Island. Then-junior Lindsay Berger scored 10 points with seven rebounds off the bench in the setback.
