WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior captain William Schimitsch of the Holy Cross men's cross country team has been named to the Academic All-League Team, as announced by the Patriot League on Friday.
Schimitsch earned a cumulative grade point average of 4.00 concluding his junior year. He competed in six of the seven meets this season. His season PR in the 5k was 15:01.77 (14th) and his season PR in the 8k was 25:11.09 (21st). He has come in the top 15 in two of the five meets and scored points in every race he competed in this year. The two-time captain was Holy Cross's second point scorer at the 2024 Patriot League Championship crossing the finish at 25:21.6 (50th, 45 pts.).
In the classroom, Schimitsch is a computer science major. He is a Liturgical Coordinator for the Liturgy Team, where he is able to help organize and set up weekly Mass. He is also a TA in the Computer Science Department for Labs and Office Hours.
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in their sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
The Holy Cross cross country teams conclude the 2024 season on Friday, Nov. 15 when they head to Hopkinton, N.H. for the NCAA Northeast Regionals.
