Men’s ice hockey travels to Army for Atlantic Hockey matchup

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team is set to travel to West Point, N.Y. to face Atlantic Hockey foe Army on Friday, Nov. 22 at Tate Rink. Friday's game is set for 7 p.m. and will stream live on FloHockey.

THE CRUSADERS (4-8-1, 3-4-1 AHA):
  • Holy Cross rounds out their three-game road trip on Friday following a two-game set at Niagara last weekend. The Crusaders picked up a point in the standings on Friday after taking the game to a shootout, before falling to the Purple Eagles 3-2 on Saturday.
  • Senior Liam McLinskey, junior Devin Phillips, and junior Timothy Heinke each finished the weekend with three points, while sophomore Will Elias, junior Matt DeBoer, senior Nic Petruolo, and sophomore Ty Gagno also picked up at least a point.
  • Petruolo's two assists were the first of the season for him, while Elias' assist was the first point of his career.
  • Senior Thomas Gale recorded 53 saves over the two nights. His 35 saves on Friday was his seventh 30+ effort in the team's 13 games this season.
  • McLinskey carries a four game goal streak into the matchup. Dating back to Nov. 7 against AIC, McLinskey has picked up at least one goal in each game, scoring seven points on five goals and two assists. The streak is tied for the longest active in the NCAA at the moment.
  • McLinskey is tied with Minnesota's Jimmy Snuggerud with 47 career goals, the second most among active NCAA players, behind only former teammate and current Quinnipiac forward Jack Ricketts.
  • Holy Cross' kill percentage of 87.0% is good for 15th in the country, posting a 47-for-54 success mark.
  • On the other side, the Crusaders have converted on 17.8% of their power play opportunities, which ranks 41st nationally.
  • McLinskey leads the Crusaders in points with 12 and goals with seven. Junior Mack Oliphant holds the lead in assists with eight, while sophomore Ty Gagno leads in blocked shots with 18.

SCOUTING ARMY (5-6-0, 5-5-0 AHA):
  • Army enters the contest in fourth place in Atlantic Hockey with 15 points and a 5-5 record in conference play.
  • Sophomore Brent Keefer leads the Black Knights with six assists and eight points, while sophomore Nik Hong's four goals leads the team.
  • Freshman netminder JJ Cataldo leads the nation with a .956 save percentage and is second in the nation with a 1.34 goals-against average through the first six starts of his collegiate career.
  • Army leads Atlantic Hockey with an average of 16.73 blocked shots per game.
  • Army added nine new players to their roster this season, and are one of the youngest teams in the country with 18 underclassmen on the roster. The group of new players includes two goaltenders, one defensemen, and six forwards.

ALL TIME SERIES:
  • The two teams have met 97 times, with the Black Knights leading the all-time series, 47-38-12.
  • The teams last met a month ago at the Hart Center, with Army taking a 1-0 victory on Saturday, Oct. 19, and the Crusaders winning Sunday, Oct. 20 by a score of 5-3.
  • The junior class shined in Sunday's 5-2 win with the line of Matt DeBoer, Michael Abgrall, and Jack Seymour combining for three of the team's five goals. Junior Timothy Heinke and sophomore Jack Stockfish netted the Crusaders' remaining two goals.
  • Senior Thomas gale recorded 57 saves over the two-game set.
  • Holy Cross is 4-5-1 in their last ten matchups at Tate Rink, dating back to Dec. 9, 2016.
