WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team is set to host Army West Point in its first Atlantic Hockey series of the season on Saturday, Oct. 19 and Sunday, Oct. 20 at the Hart Center Rink. Saturday's game, which is scheduled for 7 p.m., will stream live on FloHockey, while Sunday's 5 p.m. matchup will stream on both FloHockey and NESN.
THE CRUSADERS (1-2-0, 0-0-0 AHA):
- Holy Cross split its home-and-home series against Connecticut last weekend, taking Friday's matchup at the Hart Center, 4-3, before falling at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. the next night, 3-1.
- Three Crusaders picked up their first collegiate goals over the weekend, with junior Michael Abgrall and freshman Owen Kim scoring on Friday, and freshman Ben LeFranc scoring on Saturday.
- Freshman Jarrod Smith and junior Timothy Heinke picked up their first points as Crusaders, each tallying an assist in Friday's game.
- Juniors Jack Seymour and Mack Oliphant lead the Crusaders in points through the first three games of the season with three apiece, while junior Matt DeBoer, senior Liam McLinskey, and sophomore Jack Stockfish are close behind with two each. Sophomore Ty Gagno leads the squad with five blocked shots.
- Holy Cross is 15-for-16 on the penalty kill - good for a kill percentage of 93.8%. The mark is good for fifth in the country among teams that have faced more than ten kills.
- On the other side, the Crusaders have converted on 25% of their power play opportunities, which also ranks fifth among teams with ten or more opportunities in the nation.
SCOUTING ARMY WEST POINT (0-1-0, 0-0-0 AHA):
- Army fell to Union in their season opener on Oct. 6, 4-3 in overtime, before being shutout by no. 11 the next weekend, 5-0, in an exhibition matchup.
- Six players from Army recorded at least a point at Union, with senior forward Joey Baez leading the way with a goal and assist.
- Senior Evan Szary minded the net for the Black Knights in their lone regular season game, recording 30 saves in the loss.
- The Black Knights have not yet allowed a power play goal, holding Union to 0-for-3 and the man advantage. Conversly, the Black Knight power play is 1-for-6.
- Army adds nine new players to their roster this season, and are one of the youngest teams in the country with 18 underclassmen on the roster. The group of new players includes two goaltenders, one defensemen, and six forwards.
ALL TIME SERIES:
- The two teams have met 95 times, with Army leading the all-time series, 46-37-12.
- The two teams met three times last season. Army was victorious in the lone meeting in Worcester, winning the game 3-2 on Nov. 21.
- In the two-game set at West Point, the Black Knights shut out the Crusaders on the first night, 3-0, on Jan. 12, before Holy Cross took the second night by a score of 3-1.
- Army comes into the matchup on a seven-game winning streak at the Hart Center, dating back to Nov. 15, 2019.
- The last time the two teams played a two-game set at the Hart Center was on Feb. 17-18, 2022.
