WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross men's ice hockey will head to Army West Point for a two-game set on Friday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 13 at 4 p.m at Tate Rink in West Point, N.Y. Both matchups will stream live on FloHockey, with Saturday's matchup also being broadcasted on YES Network.
THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (10-9-4, 5-7-3 ATLANTIC HOCKEY):
- Holy Cross skated to a win and tie against AIC last weekend, falling in a shootout on Friday in Springfield, before recording a dominant 6-2 win at home in Worcester.
- Holy Cross benefitted from 11 different point scorers over the weekend set, including six different goal scorers. Seven players had a multi-point game on the weekend, led by junior John Gelatt (2g, 3a), sophomore Matt Deboer (1g, 2a), and sophomore Jack Seymour (1g, 2a). Junior netminder Thomas Gale stopped 27 shots in Friday's tie, before tacking on 25 more in Saturday's win.
- Holy Cross rounded out its non-conference schedule on Tuesday with an overtime loss to Merrimack, finishing the 2023-2024 season with a 5-2-1 record against non-conference opponents, including a 3-1-1 record against Hockey East teams.
- Holy Cross has played six one-goal games this season, holding a 1-6 record. In their ten games decided by 2+ goals, Holy Cross is 9-3. In their five overtime games this season, the Crusaders are 0-3-4.
- The PK unit continues to stand at the top of the national rankings with a 86.7% success rate, good for sixth in nation, behind only Boston College, Union, Wisconsin, Quinnipiac, and St. Cloud St.
- Senior Jason Grande's 2.14 goals-against average places him tenth in the nation, while his .924 save percentage ranks him sixth in the country. Gale's 2.32 goals-against average and .918 save percentage ranks him 17th nationally. Holy Cross owns the nation's 13th-best scoring defense, holding opponents to an average of 2.43 goals per game.
- Junior Liam McLinskey leads Atlantic Hockey in points with 23 so far this season. Ricketts is tied for second in the league in points with 21 and sits in fourth in the league in goals with nine. McLinskey also sits in fourth in assists with 15. Junior Matt Shatsky sits in a tie for fifth with 12 assists.
- Senior Jason Grande leads Atlantic Hockey with a 2.15 goals-against average and is in second in save percentage with a .924. Junior Thomas Gale sit in third in goals-against average (2.32) and fifth in save percentage (.918).
SCOUTING ARMY (5-14-1, 3-9-1 ATLANTIC HOCKEY):
- Since their win over Holy Cross in November, Army has amassed a 3-5-1 record, after going 1-9 before the matchup.
- Army brings four seniors, seven juniors, nine sophomores, and 11 freshmen to the ice this season.
- Freshman Brent Keefer leads the Black Knights in goals with 10, which ties him for fourth in Atlantic Hockey with Holy Cross senior Jack Ricketts. Freshman Mac Gadowsky paces Army with 12 assists this season, and leads Atlantic Hockey in assists per game with .92. Junior Joey Baez holds the team lead for points with 19.
- The goaltending duo of Evan Szary and Gavin Abric have combined for a 4.20 goals-against average and a .877 save percentage.
LAST TIME THEY MET:
- Army leads the all-time series against Holy Cross, 45-38-11.
- The two teams have already met for a single game this season on Tuesday, Nov. 23 in Worcester, Mass. The Black Knights took the meeting by a score of 3-2.
- The last time the Crusaders defeated the Black Knights was their final meeting last season, when Holy Cross blanked Army. 7-0, on Feb. 11, 2023 in West Point, N.Y.
