Jacob Dobbs of the No. 6 Holy Cross football team earned weekly honors from the Patriot League, the conference announced on Monday, Sept. 18. Sluka was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, while Dobbs was selected as the league's Defensive Player of the Week. Both had stellar showings to lift the Crusaders (2-1) to a dominating victory at Yale on Saturday, Sept. 16.
Sluka totaled six touchdowns on the day, four in the air and two on the ground. He finished with 373 total yards of offense, completing 23 of his 30 passes for 275 yards.
This is Sluka's first weekly honor from the Patriot League this season and his fifth time earning Offensive Player of the Week honors in his career. Sluka ranks eighth among all FCS players with 324 rushing yards so far this year, and ranks second nationally in passing efficiency (186.1).
Dobbs finished with 17 total tackles, including 12 solo tackles and a tackle for a loss of four yards, along with two forced fumbles. He helped pace a Crusader defensive effort that held the Bulldogs (0-1) to just one touchdown — with 27 seconds remaining — in the second half.
So far this year, Dobbs has earned Defensive Player of the Week honors twice and is a five-time Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week in his career. Dobbs leads the nation with an average of 17.0 tackles per game to begin the season.
