#19 men’s rowing wins New England Rowing Championship

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's rowing program won the New England Championships team point trophy, Third Varsity Eight Cup, and Second Varsity Eight Trophy on Saturday, May 6 at the New England Rowing Championship on Lake Quinsigamond.
 
Facing Trinity, WPI, MIT, Massachusetts, Middlebury, and Boston College in their morning heat, the Second Varsity Eight finished with a time of 6:00.840 to place ahead of the other six schools. In the afternoon grand final, the Second Varsity Eight earned the New England Rowing Championship Second Varsity Trophy with their first-place finish time of 5:53.830.
 
The Third Varsity Eight faced Wesleyan, Bates, Middlebury, and Bowdoin in their morning heat, placing first by over 11 seconds with a 6:02.110 to earn a spot in the afternoon's grand final. Finishing with a time of 6:00.500, the Third Varsity Eight earned the New England Rowing Championship Third Varsity Cup.
 
The No. 19 Varsity Eight faced Division III's No. 4-ranked Tufts, No. 5-ranked Trinity, No. 12-ranked Coast Guard Academy, and Middlebury in their morning heat, finishing first with a time of 5:47.760 to earn a spot in the grand final, where they finished second to Williams with a time of 5:50.150.
 
The Fourth Varsity Eight placed second in the grand final with a time of 6:06.490, two seconds behind Tufts, but ten seconds ahead of third-place Williams.

With their strong showing, the team was awarded the overall points trophy after earning 85.75 points. In the combined team trophy, where the results are combined with the women's program, the Crusaders placed second out of 28 teams with 153.78 combined points.

The men's rowing team will be back in action on Sunday, May 14, when it hosts the Eastern Sprints on Lake Quinsigamond.
