Baseball rounds out regular season vs. Lafayette, Lehigh

The Holy Cross baseball team heads to Pennsylvania to close out the regular season with a pair of Patriot League doubleheaders. The Crusaders will play at Lafayette beginning at noon on Saturday, May 6, and will face Lehigh in a twinbill beginning at noon on Sunday, May 7. 

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE CRUSADERS (14-33, 4-17 PL): 
  • Holy Cross comes off a wild midweek win over Brown on Tuesday, May 2. Holy Cross erased a 5-0 deficit, and in a back-and-forth battle, scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth to break a 9-9 deadlock and earn the victory.
  • Senior first baseman Jordan Petrushka had a 2-for-5 night with a double and two RBI. Sophomore second baseman Connor Peek drove in two runs in a 2-for-4 night with three runs scored.
  • Earlier this week, freshman right fielder Jack Toomey earned Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors for the third time this year. On the year, he is batting .316 with 17 doubles, seven home runs and 35 RBI. His doubles and home run totals rank in the top 10 in single-season program history. 
THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE LEOPARDS (14-31, 10-11 PL):
  • Lafayette most recently won one of three weekend contests against Army West Point from April 28-30.
  • Michael Zarillo leads the team with a .298 average. Pete Ciuffreda has hit nine home runs on the year, while Seif Ingram has tallied a team-best 30 RBI. 
  • As a team, the Leopards are batting .242 and its opponents are hitting .303. 
  • Starting pitcher Alex Walsh owns a 3.09 ERA on the season in 55.1 innings of work. 
THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE MOUNTAIN HAWKS (21-25, 7-14 PL):
  • Lehigh took one of three games against Navy last weekend before defeating Cairn, 15-1, on Thursday, May 4.
  • Casey Rother leads the Patriot League with 15 home runs and 63 RBI on the year.
  • Starting pitcher Luke Rettig recently set the program record for career strikeouts and has 269 strikeouts heading into the final weekend of the season. 
  • The Mountain Hawks are hitting .294 as a team and its opponents are batting .262. 
  • Lehigh will face Army on Saturday before hosting the Crusaders.
