Softball opens home schedule versus BU

The Holy Cross softball team returns to Patriot League action starting Sunday, April 2 for their home opener on Freshman Field against Boston University in Turnpike Trophy action with a doubleheader at 12 p.m. before playing a single game on Monday, April 3 at 4 p.m. Monday's contest will stream live on ESPN+.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (7-19, 0-3 PL):
  • The Crusaders snapped their eight game losing streak sweeping nonconference foe Stonehill 8-0 in five innings and 10-6 Wednesday afternoon. Junior Megan Yurchick picked up two victories and tossed eight shutout innings allowing only one hit, a walk while punching out nine batters. Freshman Anna Brait was 3-for-6 with two doubles, four RBI and two runs scored at the dish.
  • Against Stonehill, three Crusaders bashed their first career home runs. Sophomore Callie Thibault and senior Peyton Morehouse went back-to-back on consecutive pitches in the top of the fifth while sophomore Emma Fong bashed a moonshot over the center field fence in game two.
  • Anna Brait currently has the longest hitting streak on the team as she recorded a hit in five straight games. In that stretch, Brait is 7-for-16 (.438) with two doubles, five RBI and two runs scored.
  • Junior Jessica Mott has 23 doubles in her Holy Cross career and needs three more to move into the top-10 all-time in program history. Her nine two-baggers this season rank tied for third in the conference.
SCOUTING THE TERRIERS (23-7, 0-0 PL):
  • BU has won three straight games and 10 of their last 12 games including a 1-0 shutout of UConn on Wednesday afternoon. Kayla Roncin was 2-for-3 with a solo homer, the lone run of the game while Allison Boaz improved to 11-4 tossing six shutout innings and Kasey Ricard picked up her second save.
  • Roncin was named the Patriot League Player of the Week for the second time this season. Roncin slashed .571/.600/.857 with eight RBI, five runs scored and three stolen bases last week for the Terriers. Currently, Roncin is the second toughest player to strikeout in Division one as she only has two strikeouts in 98 at bats this season.
  • The Terriers had six student-athletes on the Preseason All-Patriot League Team including the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year (Roncin) and Preseason Pitcher of the Year (Boaz). BU earned 68 points and eight first place votes narrowly edging out reigning league champion Lehigh (66 points, six votes).
  • Earlier this season, on March 9, 2023, BU shutout #12/#16 Baylor 2-0 at the Louisville Slugger Tournament. BU ranks seventh in the nation in shutouts with 13.
LAST TIME THEY MET:
  • BU has won 19 straight meetings against the Crusaders.
  • The last Holy Cross victory was back on April 5, 2015 an 8-4 win on Freshman Field.
