Softball bested by Dartmouth on Wednesday

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross softball team fell to Dartmouth College by a final score of 11-2 in six innings on Wednesday, Apr. 8 at Freshman Field.

STARTING IN THE CIRCLE:
  • Holy Cross: Sophia Roncone (L, 3-10), 4.0 innings pitched, five hits allowed, four runs (four earned), six strikeouts, two walks
  • Dartmouth: Isabel Kirby (W, 1-2), 5.2 innings pitched, two hits allowed, no runs, four strikeouts, HBP
IN RELIEF:
  • Holy Cross: Bella Nugent, 1.1 innings pitched, five hits allowed, six runs (five earned), wild pitch
  • Maya Gallagher, 0.2 innings pitched, two hits, run (earned)

AT THE PLATE: HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Big Green jumped on the board in the top of the first inning when Faby Serna drew a throw on an attempted steal of second base, allowing Lauren Ben-Ezra to score from third and make it 1-0.
  • Serna hit a two-run home run to straight-away center in the top of the third to extend Dartmouth's lead to 3-0.
  • Serna hit her second home run of the game on her next trip to the plate, putting Dartmouth ahead 4-0 in the top of the fifth.
  • The Big Green added seven runs in the top of the sixth to push their lead to 11-0.
  • Junior Emma Pietrzak walked with the bases loaded and freshman Emma Horrocks hit an RBI-single in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it 11-2.
UP NEXT: 
  • Following a conference bye this weekend, the Crusaders return to action on Tuesday, Apr. 14, traveling to face UMass Lowell in a doubleheader. 
  • First pitch for game one is set for 2:00 p.m., with game two to follow at 4:00 p.m.
