Softball heads to Quinnipiac for Tuesday twinbill

The Holy Cross softball team returns to the field on Tuesday, March 21 taking on nonconference opponent Quinnipiac in doubleheader action at 2 and 4 p.m. on the Quinnipiac Softball Field.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (5-14, 0-0 PL):
  • Holy Cross was swept in a Sunday doubleheader at the Rutgers Tournament falling 9-7 to Iona before dropping an 8-5 decision to Rutgers. Junior Claire McCann had a successful two game set going 4-for-7 (.571) with a home run, five RBI and a double while classmate Jessica Mott was 4-for-8 (.500) with a home run, RBI, a double and two runs scored.
  • The Crusaders were the only team in the field at the Rutgers Tournament to not be run ruled by the host Scarlet Knights.
  • Holy Cross is led by two freshmen, shortstop Anna Brait and outfielder Ali Sniegocki. Brait paces the team in batting average (.345), runs (11), hits (20), RBI (12), on base percentage (.424), slugging percentage (.500) and OPS (.924) while Sniegocki is tied for the team lead in home runs (2), is second in doubles (4) and batting average (.317).
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS (9-8, 0-0 MAAC):
  • Quinnipiac has lost two straight games and three of their last five including a 5-4 setback to Winthrop last Thursday. Amanda Engel was 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base while hurler Sydney Horan tossed 7.1 innings of three run ball in the setback.
  • The Bobcats were selected last in the 2023 Softball Preseason Coaches' Poll earning 22 points in the process. Not one of their athletes was on the Preseason All-MAAC Team.
  • Mary Fogg paces the Quinnipiac offense hitting a sizzling .392 with a team-bests in hits (20), runs scored (9), and stolen bases (5). In the circle, the Bobcats have a combined 2.13 team ERA, 1.16 WHIP and are holding opponents to .223 hitting.
LAST TIME THEY MET:
  • Holy Cross is 5-10 in the series history against Quinnipiac dating back to 2000.
  • Both squads last met before the COVID-19 shutdown on March 8, 2020 at THE Spring Games in Madeira Beach, Fla. The Bobcats earned a 1-0 nine inning victory. Kari Jacobson was 2-for-4 with a stolen base in the defeat for the Crusaders.
