Men's ice hockey travels to Army for two-game set

The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team will head to West Point, N.Y. to face Atlantic Hockey opponent Army on Friday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m., and Saturday Feb. 11 at 4 p.m. Both games will stream live through FloHockey.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (10-15-3, 9-9-2 AHA):
  • The Crusaders swept Bentley last weekend, 4-1, 3-2.
  • On the first night, Grayson Constable and Lucas Thorne both scored, while Jack Ricketts netted a pair. Nick Hale, Alec Cicero, Tyler Ghirardosi, Matt Shatsky, Ricketts, and Thorne each picked up an assist.
  • On the second night, Thorne and Devin Phillips scored, with assts by Cicero, Ricketts, Hale, and Liam McLinskey. Ricketts proved to be the hero in overtime, scoring shorthanded to secure the win for the Crusaders. Jack Robilotti was credited with the assist.
  • Ricketts' three goals and two assists earned him AHA Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career.  The last time the Crusaders received a Player of the Week nod was on Jan. 16, 2018 when forward Danny Lopez was given the honor.
  • Hale received an Honorable Mention for Defensive Player of the Week after his two assists on the weekend, as well as his part in the Crusaders' penalty kill unit that held the Falcons to a 1-for-7 conversion rate over the two games. Sophomore netminder Thomas Gale also received an Honorable Mention for Goaltender of the Week after he turned away 25-of-27 shots in his 96 minutes of work over the two nights.
  • Ricketts leads the squad in goals (13), assists (11) and points (24). Junior netminder Jason Grande holds a team-best 8-4-1 record while Thomas Gale leads with a 2.53 GAA, and .905 save percentage.
  • The Crusaders are now 9-3-2 in their last 14 games.
  • Ricketts enters the matchup on a three-game scoring streak. Holy Cross is 8-1-1 this season when he scores a goal.
 
SCOUTING ARMY (10-14-4, 9-9-2 AHA):
  • The Black Knights enter the matchup with a 5-5-1 record in their last 11 AHA games. Five of the matchups were decided in overtime, where they were 3-2-0.
  • In their last AHA game on Feb. 7, Army took down Sacred Heart in Fairfield, 4-1. The Black Knights held the Pioneers scoreless until there were less than three minutes remaining in the matchup.
  • Anthony Firriolo and Max Itagaki lead with 24 points, while Joey Baez leads with 16 goals, and Itagaki leads with 22 assists. Netminder Gavin Abric holds a team-best 6-11-3 record, with a 3.20 GAA and .930 save percentage.
 
LAST TIME THEY MET:
  • All time, the Crusaders are 47-33-11 against the Black Knights.
  • In their last meeting on Feb. 17-18, 2022, Army swept Holy Cross by 2-1, 3-1 scores over the two nights.
  • The Crusaders are 2-7-1 in the last ten matchups between the two teams.
