WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross men's basketball legend
Stan Grayson (Class of 1972) was recently inducted into the Catholic High School League Hall of Fame.
Grayson was a standout athlete at All Saints High School in Detroit, where he led the team to the 1968 Michigan Class C state championship. He was a three-time All-Catholic League and two-time All-State selection, while setting the school scoring record and serving as senior class president.
"I've got a lot of memories playing athletics at All Saints and in the Catholic League," said Grayson. "Two stand out. In 1967, we lost the state championship in the finals. We had a record of 24-3. We were all sophomores and juniors and having tasted defeat, to a person, we said we were all coming back. Next year we went not only undefeated but became state champion."
During his Holy Cross career, Grayson totaled 860 points and 625 rebounds while posting averages of 12.6 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. He led the Crusaders to an overall record of 49-28 and served as a team captain during his senior season, when he was also named the Crusader of the Year. Grayson was inducted in the Holy Cross Varsity Club Hall of Fame in 1991.
Following his graduation, Grayson earned a law degree from the University of Michigan. During his professional career he has been a corporate attorney, the deputy mayor of New York City, an investment banker and a member of the Holy Cross Board of Trustees.
The Catholic High School League is the largest Catholic sports league in the United States with 27 private high schools located throughout southeast Michigan. Founded in 1926, CHSL has a rich history of governing Catholic sports in the Detroit metro and surrounding area.
