Men's basketball adds transfer Joe Octave

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross head men's basketball coach Brett Nelson has announced the addition of transfer Joe Octave to the Crusaders' roster. A 6-foot-4, 205-pound guard, Octave spent the last two years at the U.S. Air Force Academy, starting 24 games for the Falcons during the 2021-2022 season

"We are really excited to have Joe Octave joining our basketball family here at Holy Cross," said Nelson. "He is a guy who has already produced at a high level in the Mountain West Conference, who will bring a great deal of versatility and experience to our program. We are looking forward to the impact he will make for us both on and off the court."

During the 2021-2022 campaign, Octave played in 25 games with 24 starts for Air Force, ranking fourth on the team in scoring (8.3 points per game) and fifth in rebounding (3.0 rebounds per game). In the Falcons' final game of the season, he posted his first career double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds against Utah State in the Mountain West Conference Tournament. Octave hit 45.8 percent of his field goal attempts and 37.0 percent of his three-pointers last year, while helping Air Force to its best non-conference record since 2014. Over the course of his two seasons with the Falcons, he totaled 259 points, 102 rebounds, 28 assists and 23 steals.

A 2019 graduate of Mary Star of the Sea High School in San Pedro, Calif., Octave scored 2,768 points during his high school career. He averaged 24.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game over his four years in high school and was a four-time first team All-League selection. Octave played AAU ball for Russell Westbrook's Team Why Not, and attended the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School in 2019-2020.

Holy Cross will be entering its fourth season under Nelson in 2022-2023.
