Berger (2-for-4, two RBI)

W: Neff (1-0)
L: Mahala (0-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Harvard took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first after first baseman Logan Bravo hit an RBI single to left field.
  • In the bottom of the first, freshman pitcher Sean Scanlon and senior first baseman Nate Wolf each hit RBI doubles to push Holy Cross ahead by a score of 2-1.
  • The Crimson put up a four-spot in the top of the third to jump ahead 5-2.
  • The Crusaders rallied back in the bottom of the sixth after capitalizing on a number of Harvard miscues. Wolf scored after sophomore right fielder Jake McElroy reached on an error; then the Crusaders tied up the game after freshman left fielder Connor Cooney scored on a passed ball and McElroy scored on a wild pitch. Holy Cross then took a 6-5 lead after an error by the Harvard third baseman.
  • Holy Cross continued to roll in the seventh, when Cooney was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to extend the lead to 7-5. A sacrifice fly by McElroy made it an 8-5 game, and then senior catcher Angelo D'Acunto drilled a three-run homer to left-center for an 11-5 Holy Cross advantage.
  • Freshman right-hander Trevor Neff, sophomore righty Payton Sutman and sophomore right-hander Nick Fletcher combined to pitch six shutout innings and prevent any Harvard rally.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Neff's five strikeouts were a career high for the freshman.
  • D'Acunto has homered in back-to-back games.
DUE UP:
  • The Crusaders head to Army for a four-game Patriot League series beginning on Saturday, April 2.
