Men's hockey heads to Army

The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team heads to Army West Point for a pair of Atlantic Hockey road contests on Friday, Jan. 21 and Saturday, Jan. 22. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. on Friday evening and 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon at Tate Rink.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE CRUSADERS (5-16-2, 3-9-2 AHA):
  • Holy Cross comes off a weekend series against Canisius; Holy Cross tied the Golden Griffins on Jan. 14 before falling, 2-1, on Jan. 15.
  • Senior Anthony Vincent scored a power-play goal in the tie; junior Bobby Young scored the lone goal of the Crusaders' loss.
  • The Crusaders have a .224 power-play percentage, ranking 14th in the nation. Ten Crusaders have recorded at least one power-play goal this year, including seven who have tallied multiple power-play goals.
  • Senior Ryan Leibold, the team's leading scorer with 18 points on the season, has won 234 faceoffs this year — ranking 14th nationally.
  • Holy Cross will be on the road for the first time since Nov. 27, and play its first conference road game since Nov. 20, when the Crusaders head to West Point.
SCOUTING THE BLACK KNIGHTS (8-10-3, 6-6-2 AHA):
  • Army comes off a 4-2 loss against Sacred Heart on Tuesday, Jan. 18. Joey Baez and Jake Felker each scored for the Black Knights.
  • Colin Bilek leads the Black Knights with 18 points on the year, including a team-high 11 assists. Anthony Firriolo has scored a team-best eight goals on the year.
  • Gavin Abric has started 19 of Army's 21 contests in net, recording a 2.37 goals-against average and .925 save percentage. He ranks second in Atlantic Hockey in both categories.
  • Army leads the conference with an average of 31.4 shots on goal per game.
  • The Black Knights' penalty kill percentage of .851 leads Atlantic Hockey.
LAST TIME THEY MET:
  • Holy Cross hosted Army on Jan. 21 and 22, 2021; the Black Knights swept the series with a 3-2 win and 4-1 victory.
  • In the 3-2 loss, forward Jack Ricketts and Vincent each had a goal; Leibold notched a pair of assists.
  • This weekend's matchup will mark the first contests for the Crusaders at Army West Point since the 2017-18 season; the Crusaders earned a tie and win in that weekend series.
