WORCESTER, Mass. — Senior
Will Chen won both his singles and doubles matches, but the Holy Cross men's tennis team was defeated by Franklin Pierce 5-2 in its season opener at the Sinnott Family Tennis Facility. The Crusaders open the season at 0-1, while the Ravens start the year at 1-0.
Holy Cross began the day by sweeping all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. Chen and senior
Alexander Ruenhorst led the way with a 7-6 (9) win at No. 1 doubles. Junior
Declan O'Flynn and freshman
Matt Maggiacomo added a 6-4 victory at No. 2, while sophomore
Connor Nelson and freshman
Jeremy Clark won 6-4 at No. 3.
Franklin Pierce came back to take five of the six singles matches to earn the victory. The Crusaders' lone win in singles action came at the No. 1 spot, where Chen posted a 6-3, 7-6 (1) victory.
Holy Cross returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 15, when it plays host to Babson at 4:00 p.m.
