BETHLEHEM, Pa. —The No. 8 seeded Holy Cross men's tennis team suffered a 4-3 setback to No. 9 seeded Lafayette in the 2026 Patriot League Tournament Championship First Round Thursday afternoon at the Ulrich Varsity Tennis Courts in Bethlehem, Pa.
The loss ends the Crusaders season at 8-13 overall. Lafayette (5-10) advances to the Quarterfinals to face off with top-seeded Lehigh on Friday, April 24 at 11 a.m.
DOUBLES ACTION:
- Holy Cross earned the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
- The No. 1 doubles duo of senior Patrick Ling and freshman Luke Prokopis brought home a 6-4 win over Ricky Espaillat and Nick McKenzie.
- Lafayette won at No. 3 doubles to put it all on No. 2 doubles for the doubles point.
- Juniors Teddy Callery and Matt Carlson were up 4-1 on their opponents, Jake Magnusson and Sam Gelber. Magnusson and Gelber rallied to lead 5-4 and 6-5 before Callery and Carlson were victorious in the final two points.
SINGLES PLAY:
- Lafayette tied the match at 1-1 with a win at No. 6 singles.
- Victories at No. 2 and No. 3 singles put the Leopards on the brink of a first round win as they led 3-1.
- Freshman Aayush Jhaveri bought his team within one, 3-2 upending John Dickens 7-5, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.
- Ling leveled the score at 3-3 with a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Nikolas Martirossian at No. 5.
- The Leopards clinched a quarterfinal round berth with a victory at No. 1.
