Sophomore linebacker
Jacob Dobbs of the Holy Cross football team has been named a
HERO Sports Sophomore All-American, as announced on Wednesday, May 19.
Dobbs, a team captain as just a sophomore, was a key leader on the Crusaders' defense this year. He led all Patriot League players in total tackles this year, with 41, along with 23 solo tackles. His average of 10.2 tackles per game ranked 13
th among all FCS players in the spring 2021 season. Additionally, he had three tackles for loss, an interception and a fumble recovery on the year.
He was an All-Patriot League first team honoree this season, and was additionally named the
Stats Perform FCS National Defensive Player of the Week on March 30 after Dobbs finished with 12 tackles, including nine solo tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and a half-sack in Holy Cross' 34-24 victory over Fordham on March 27.
Holy Cross finished at 3-1 on the shortened spring season, winning the first-ever Patriot League Championship Game for the team's second consecutive league title, before falling to eventual national runner-up South Dakota State in the first round of the FCS playoffs.
The Crusaders will enjoy a short offseason before
opening the fall 2021 campaign at the University of Connecticut on Sept. 4. Holy Cross' home opener will take place on Sept. 11 against Merrimack. Season tickets for the 2021 Holy Cross football season will go on sale on Thursday, May 20.
