Softball hosts Brown for Senior Day

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross softball team will take on Brown at Freshman Field Wednesday at 5 p.m. The game will serve as the team's Senior Day.

The contest with the Bears will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

Things to Know About the Crusaders (5-9):
  • Holy Cross is coming off a weekend where it dropped two games to Lehigh in a Patriot League doubleheader.
  • The only run of the weekend for the Crusaders came on an Erin Bengston solo home run in the sixth inning of game two. On the season, she is second on the team in both slugging (.500) and on-base percentage (.426) and leads the team in doubles (5) and RBI (9). The home run was her first of the season and fifth of her career.
  • Bailey Chavez is coming off her best game of the season at the plate as the junior went 3-for-4 in game two against the Mountain Hawks. It was the first three-hit game of Chavez's career. The game brought her season batting average up nearly 70 points.
  • Kelly Nelson added seven strikeouts against Lehigh to bring her season total to 94, good for first in the Patriot League. Her 10.4 K/7 mark is 23rd in the nation.
  • The Holy Cross defense turned two more double plays against the Mountain Hawks, bringing its season total to eight. The Crusaders' .57 double plays per game is seventh in the nation.
Things to Know About the Bears (1-0):
  • Brown just recently got its season underway with a 2-0 win against Johnson & Wales on April 11.
  • In the game, the Bears' Katie O'Leary had a hand in both runs scored. She tripled in the first inning to drive in the first and later that inning scored the second run herself.
  • Brown used three pitchers against Johnson & Wales. Erin Elgas got the start and went two innings, Jodie Aguirre pitched the middle three and earned the win, while Lauren Innerst got the save after pitching the final two innings.
  • The Bears started last season 1-9 before the remainder of the season was canceled.
Last Time They Met:
  • The Crusaders and Bears most recently faced off in 2017, head coach Jen Lapicki's first season at Holy Cross, for three games throughout the year.
  • Holy Cross won the first 7-2, dropped the second 7-5, and won the third and final game 4-3.
