The Holy Cross men's soccer team will travel to Easton, Pa., this weekend, to face Lafayette in a 1:00 p.m. game on Saturday, March 13.
Things to Know About the Crusaders (0-0):
• The Crusaders were originally scheduled to open the season last Saturday, March 6, against Colgate, but that game was postponed.
• Holy Cross returns a number of veteran student-athletes to its roster this year. The Crusaders bring back seven players who had double-digit starts in 2019 and six who played over 1,000 minutes.
• On the offensive end of the field, Holy Cross returns its top three scorers from last season in senior midfielder
Max Krause, junior midfielder
Dylan Scanley and sophomore midfielder
Jack Ostrosky.
• Krause led the team in scoring a year ago with 15 points on five goals and five assists. Over the course of his collegiate career, he has played in 48 games with 37 starts, totaling eight goals and 12 assists for 28 points.
• Scanley tied with Krause for the team-lead with five goals scored in 2019, while adding one assist for a total of 11 points. He scored a career-high two goals in last year's win over Delaware.
• Ostrosky was the Crusaders' third-leading scorer a year ago, finishing the season with seven points on two goals and three assists.
Scouting the Leopards (1-0):
• Lafayette owns a 1-0 record so far this season, after opening the year with a 1-0 victory over Bucknell last Saturday.
• Senior forward Martin Ssessanga scored the only goal of the game against the Bison.
• The Leopards' defense did not allow Bucknell to take any shots last week, with junior goalkeeper Alex Sutton recording a shutout.
Series History:
• Lafayette holds a 23-8-7 lead in the all-time series between the schools, but the Crusaders stand 4-1-2 over the last seven games.
• Holy Cross and Lafayette last met on Sept. 28, 2019, with the Leopards winning 3-2 in double overtime in Worcester. James Gibson scored the game-winning goal with just 35 seconds remaining in the second overtime period.
