Jacob Dobbs of the Holy Cross football team has been added to the
watch list for the 2021 Buck Buchanan Award, presented annually by Stats Perform to the top defensive player at the NCAA football championship subdivision level.
Dobbs is one of 11 midseason additions to the watch list, which now has 46 total members. A 50-member, national media panel will select the winner following the regular season.
During the 2021 season, Dobbs has been a dominant leader on defense for the Crusaders. He ranks tied for fourth among all FCS players with 10.8 total tackles per game; he leads the Patriot League with 13.5 tackles for loss and 52 solo tackles.
In total this year, Dobbs has 97 tackles, eight sacks, four quarterback hurries and two pass breakups.
Dobbs ranks third among all active FCS players in career solo tackles per game, at 5.23 per contest.
The Buchanan Award, now in its 27th season, is named for the legendary Hall of Fame defensive lineman. Past recipients include two-time winner Dexter Coakley, Rashean Mathis and Jared Allen.
Dobbs and the Crusaders return to action on Saturday, Nov. 13 against Fordham. Kickoff in The Bronx, N.Y., is set for 1 p.m.
