Men’s tennis drops close match to Siena

WORCESTER, Mass. — Senior Alexander Ruenhorst posted victories in both singles and doubles action, but the Holy Cross men's tennis team was edged by Siena 4-3 at the Sinnott Family Tennis Facility. The Crusaders fall to 1-4 on the season, while the Saints improve to 2-0 overall.

Ruenhorst and freshman Jeremy Clark opened the day with a 7-6 victory at No. 3 doubles, but Siena had wins at No. 1 and No. 2 to claim the doubles point. The Saints also had a straight set victory at No. 3 singles, but other five singles matches were all decided by match tiebreakers after the first two sets were split.

Senior Will Chen led the way at No. 1 singles with a 3-6, 6-2, (10-5) win. Ruenhorst came out on top 2-6, 6-2, (10-7) at the No. 4 spot, while junior Declan O'Flynn had a 6-4, 2-6, (13-11) victory at No. 6. But Siena was able to squeak out wins at No. 2 and No. 5 singles to earn the overall victory.

Holy Cross will conclude the fall portion of its season with select individuals taking part in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Regional, which begins on Thursday, Oct. 14, in Philadelphia, Pa.
