A pair of student-athletes from the Holy Cross women's basketball team received All-Patriot League honors for the 2019-20 season, the conference announced on Friday, March 6. Senior forward
Lauren Manis earned first team and All-Defensive honors, while sophomore guard
Avery LaBarbera earned a spot on the second team.
Manis was named to the first team for the third consecutive year and becomes a four-time All-Patriot League selection. She is just the eighth player in league history to earn a spot on the first or second team in all four years of her career, and is the first Holy Cross player to be a four-time All-Patriot League honoree. She has had one of the most storied careers in Patriot League history, becoming the
conference's all-time leader in rebounds on Feb. 26, while also ranking fourth in league history in career points.
She has recorded 2,001 career points and 1,176 career rebounds – making her the only women's basketball player in league history to surpass the 2,000-point and 1,000-rebound marks. Manis is one of just three active players in Division I women's basketball to achieve the feat, and is also the first player in Holy Cross history – men's or women's – to do so.
In 2019-20, Manis led the Crusaders (18-11, 11-7 Patriot League) to a tie for third place in the Patriot League standings, helping Holy Cross earn a home quarterfinal game in the Patriot League Tournament for the first time since 2015, averaging 22.8 points and 12.7 rebounds per game over the final seven games of the regular season. She was additionally a five-time Patriot League Player of the Week selection.
Overall, Manis led the league in scoring (18.6 points per game) and ranked second in rebounds (11.4). She led the conference in 3-point percentage (.446), and was fifth in free-throw percentage (.767). Her 19 double-doubles during the regular season ranked fourth in Division I, and she has also recorded a career-high 69 assists this year. Defensively, Manis ranked third in the Patriot League with 27 blocks, and averaged 8.6 defensive boards per game – ranking fifth in Division I.
LaBarbera earns All-Patriot League honors for the second consecutive year after being named the Rookie of the Year and a third team selection in 2018-19. In 2019-20, LaBarbera ranked sixth in the Patriot League with an average of 13.8 points per game, and additionally led the league in free throw percentage (.827) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.1).
She reached double figures in 24 games this season, including averaging 17.3 points over the final four games of the regular season. LaBarbera elevated her overall game in her sophomore season, besting her freshman year totals in total points (400), rebounds (134) and assists (99) while also matching her freshman-year total of 40 steals.
Manis, LaBarbera and the fourth-seeded Crusaders will host No. 5 Lafayette on Monday, March 9 in a quarterfinal matchup of the Patriot League Tournament. Tipoff at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex is set for 7 p.m. All Holy Cross students will receive free admission with a valid student ID, and all other fans can purchase tickets beginning at just $5.
