Women's basketball returns home vs. BU

The Holy Cross women's basketball team welcomes Boston University to the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex on Saturday, Feb. 8 for a key Patriot League matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.

In addition to celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day, Holy Cross will play its annual Pink Game and also celebrate Alumnae Day. Following the contest, the Crusaders will be available for an autograph session. 

The game will be televised locally on Spectrum News 1, with Andy Lacombe on the call and Amy (O'Brien) Davagian providing color commentary.

Things to Know About the Crusaders (13-8, 6-4 Patriot League):
  • Holy Cross fell on the road to Colgate on Feb. 1 by a score of 71-60.
  • Senior Megan Swords, who has scored in double figures in each of the last four games, led Holy Cross with a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds in the loss. Swords continues to pace the Patriot League with a conference-best .559 field-goal percentage and 3.6 offensive rebounds per game. 
  • Sophomore Avery LaBarbera chipped in 17 points against Colgate, including 14 in the second half. She has reached double-figure points in the last six games and in 18 games this year, more than any Crusader.
  • The Crusaders continue to lead the Patriot League in rebounding, with an average of 40.9 boards per game and a league-leading rebounding margin of +5.9.
  • Holy Cross has posted a 7-1 record at the Hart Center this season.
 
Things to Know About the Terriers (11-10, 6-4 Patriot League):
  • BU is in the midst of a three-game winning streak that commenced with an overtime victory over Holy Cross on Jan. 25. Most recently, the Terriers took down Patriot League-leading Bucknell by a score of 52-48 on Feb. 1.
  • Riley Childs was named the Patriot League Player of the Week on Monday, Feb. 3 after contributing a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds against the Bison.
  • Maggie Pina helped the Terriers sweep the league's weekly awards, earning Rookie of the Week honors on Monday after posting double figures in back-to-back games.
  • BU's freshman class has made a big impact already, with Pina, Maren Durant and Sydney Johnson combining for seven Rookie of the Week awards.
  • In conference games this year, BU has held its opponents to just 53.5 points per game, the second-lowest total in the Patriot League.  
 
Last Time They Met:
  • Holy Cross couldn't hold off a comeback by the Terriers on Jan. 25, falling in overtime by a score of 76-70.
  • The Crusaders led by as much as 18 in the second quarter before BU cut within 38-31 at the half. Holy Cross had a 64-61 lead after LaBarbera hit two free throws with 30 seconds to go; Pina drained a 3-pointer to tie things up with 25 seconds left in regulation and the Terriers outscored the Crusaders, 12-6, to take the victory.
  • Senior Lauren Manis led Holy Cross with a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds. Swords had 15 points and a pair of blocks, while LaBarbera scored 12 points.
