Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men’s hockey falls to RIT, 4-2

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's hockey team dropped their first league game of 2020 to RIT, 4-2. Pete Kessel notched both Holy Cross goals, including one on the power play.
 
The Tigers opened the game with a goal less than one minute into action. RIT added to their lead with a second goal late in the period. Matt Radomsky made 11 saves in the first period and Holy Cross recorded 12 shots on goal.
 
The second period was even as each team picked up a goal. RIT went ahead, 3-0, with a goal nearly five minutes into the frame. The Crusaders got on the board 11 minutes later when Pete Kessel scored his fifth of the season. The Tigers outshot the Crusaders 12-4 in the middle period.
 
Kessel tallied his second goal of the night in the third period and his fourth power play goal of the season with under four minutes to play to put the Crusaders within one, 3-2. Holy Cross pressured offensively with 14 third period shots and pull Radomsky for the extra attacker with one minute to play. RIT finished off the night with an empty net goal with 23 seconds to play to seal the win.
 
Radomsky finished the night with 26 saves.

2-0 RIT| 1st – 15:57 EV: Will Calverly scored after an offensive zone turnover.
3-0 RIT | 2nd – 4:27 PP: Elijah Gonsalves scored on the back door on the power play.
3-1 HC | 2nd – 16:48 EV: After a puck bounced around the slot, Pete Kessel collected it on the right half wall. Kessel fired the puck from just above the goal line to go in between the post and RIT's netminder.
3-2 HC | 3rd – 16:03 PP: After Dalton Skelly point shot was broken up in front by Conner Jean, Pete Kessel collected the loose puck from a low angle and shot into the open net.
4-2 RIT | 3rd – 19:37 EN: Alden Dupuis scored on an empty net with an assist from Chris McKay.

NOTES & NUMBERS
  • Holy Cross and RIT were even in shots, 30-30. The Crusaders outshot the Tigers, 14-5, in the third period.
  • Holy Cross went 1-for-5 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
