Senior right-handed pitcher Pat McGowan has been named the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday, May 7.
McGowan turned in his best start of the year to give the Crusaders a crucial victory against Lehigh on Monday, May 6, helping Holy Cross clinch the second seed in the Patriot League and home-field advantage for the semifinal round of the playoffs.
In the 4-0 win, McGowan pitched six shutout innings while allowing just seven hits and two walks. McGowan also struck out a career-high nine batters, besting his previous collegiate best of seven. McGowan has not lost in his last four outings.
This marks the first weekly honor of McGowan's career; he is the third different Crusader to earn Patriot League Pitcher of the Week honors this year, joining sophomore righty Liam Dvorak (March 26) and Declan Cronin (April 2). Holy Cross is the only team to have three different pitchers named Pitcher of the Week this season, and it is also the first time since 2013 that Holy Cross has had three different players earn Pitcher of the Week honors in a single season.
Holy Cross will host Army West Point in a best-of-three Patriot League semifinal series beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 11 at Fitton Field.
