Men’s hockey drops decision to Army West Point, 4-1

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to Army West Point on Nov. 15. at the Hart Center. Pete Kessel scored his first goal of the season.
 
Army jumped to an early lead, scoring on the final seconds of a Crusader penalty nearly three minutes into the game. Three minutes later the Black Knights doubled their lead to make the game 2-0. Matt Radomsky made 11 saves in the first 20 minutes.
 
Holy Cross pushed the game back within one just over six minutes into the middle frame when Pete Kessel and Jack Surowiec combined for the Crusaders' goal. The goal gave Kessel and Surowiec each their first point of the season. Ten minutes later Army netted a third goal to keep the two-goal deficit.
 
The third period saw 12 saves from Radomsky for a game total of 29. With under three minutes to play in the game, Army scored a final goal to cap the game off at 4-1.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
1- 0 Army | 1st – 2:46 PP: From the point, John Zimmerman scored through traffic.
2-0 Army | 1st – 5:44 EV: Mason Krueger scored on a two-on-one, on the back door.
2-1 HC | 2nd – 6:18 EV: Jack Surowiec broke up an Army pass along the blue line and found Pete Kessel ahead in the neutral zone. Kessel fired a wrist shot from the top of the left faceoff dot to beat Army's Trevin Kozlowski's glove.
3-1 Army | 2nd – 16:36 EV: Army again scored on an odd-man rush with a back door shot from Daniel Haider.
4-1 Army | 3rd – 17:46 EV: Zach Evancho scored after Radomsky made the initial save but was able to catch the bounce and score.
 
NOTES & NUMBERS
  • Kevin Darrar and Charlie Barrow each played in their 100th game
  • Army held the shot advantage, 33-27.
  • The Crusaders killed two of three penalties.
