WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team lost to the University of Connecticut tonight, 7-2, at the Freitas Ice Forum.
Despite the loss, the Crusaders scored their first two goals in Hockey east play and led for a ten minute stretch in the first period. Senior Amanda Kewer scored her second goal of the season to give Holy Cross the lead off the assist from freshman Sommer Ross. In the second period, senior captain Julie Matthias scored her first of the season off the assist from junior Rachel Moore, who recorded her first point as a Crusader.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1-0 HC (1st, 2:04, EV): Ross found Kewer who netter her second of the year and gave Holy Cross its first lead in Hockey East play.
1-1 (1st, 12:24, PP): UConn's Jamie Fox scored off the feed from Tristyn Svetek to tie things up.
2-1 CONN (1st, 15:22, PP): The Huskies took the lead thanks to a goal from Morgan Wabick.
3-1 CONN (2nd, 4:59, EV): Savannah Bouzide made it a two goal lead for UConn.
3-2 CONN (2nd, 12:35, EV): Matthias got one back for the Crusaders with the help of Moore to shrink the deficit to one.
4-2 CONN (2nd, 17:00, EV): Emily Reid scored for the Huskies to end the second period at 4-2.
5-2 CONN (3rd, 3:21, PP): The Huskies converted on their third power play of the night.
6-2 CONN (3rd, 5:18, EV): Leona Sim scored on the only unassisted goal of the game.
7-2 CONN (3rd, 19:59, EV): Nora Maclaine wrapped up the scoring with only a second remaining in the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- UConn outshot Holy Cross, 38-21.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Julia Pelletier made 31 saves to UConn's 19.
