WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's hockey team downed RIT, 4-0, on Friday night at the Hart Center behind a 29-save shutout effort from Paul Berrafato.
The Crusaders (11-9-7, 10-5-6 AHC) scored five minutes into the game and kept the lead. In the second period, Holy Cross scored a power play goal midway through and ended the period with another goal.
The Crusaders insured the win over the Tigers (9-13-2, 8-9-1 AHC) with a third period goal and a solid defensive effort.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1-0 HC (1st, 5:31, EV): With a flurry in front, Scott Pooley collected a loose puck and shot across the crease. Kevin Darrar collected the puck from below the goal line and fed T.J. Moore in the slot. Moore powered a shot past RIT's Ian Andriano.
2-0 HC (2nd, 10:14, PP): After cycling the puck in the corner, Michael Laffin sent a pass to T.J. Moore on the half-wall. Moore passed across the zone to Danny Lopez on the point, who then shot through traffic and beat Andriano.
3-0 HC (2nd, 18:11, EV): In the neutral zone, the Crusaders regrouped and Tommy Muratore rushed the puck to send in a shot. Muratore's shot deflected off of a RIT defender's skate and right to the stick of a trailing Michael Laffin. The junior forward fired a shot to the top left corner from the hash marks.
4-0 HC (3rd, 14:55, EV): In a broken play in the neutral zone, T.J. Moore fed Peter Crinella, who then sent Kevin Darrar on a breakaway. While being chased down by two RIT defenders, Darrar shot top-shelf past Andriano.
